Susan C. Learned Cermak's Obituary
Susan Learned Cermak, age 58, of Umatilla passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, peacefully in her home surrounded by family and loved ones after battling pancreatic cancer for over a year. She was well-known and well-loved within the Lake County Community. Susan was a teacher at Umatilla Elementary (1972-1977), a teacher at Eustis Heights (1977-1980), a teacher at Tavares Elementary (1980-1987) and Assistant Principal at Eustis Heights (1987-1989). She was a Principal at Treadway Elementary (1989-1995), Tavares Elementary (1995-1997), and at Umatilla Elementary (1997-2010). Under Susan’s guidance, Umatilla Elementary was an “A” rated school for eight years in a row. She served the students of Lake County for a total of 38 years. Susan was a devoted wife, sister, and mother. Anyone fortunate enough to have met and known Susan was blessed with a gift that they may never receive again in a person. Her focus in life was to educate elementary children, move them on to college, and help make them successful in life. She was preceded in death by her father, William Ellis Conner and her mother Bobbie Jean (Rollings) Conner. Susan is survived by her husband, Mike Cermak, Sr.; daughter, Mary Pat (Michael) Learned-Godigkeit; grandchildren, Sara and Kyle; stepmother, Mattie Conner; sister, Kim (Bob) Machon; niece, Nicole; brother, Ted (Carol) Conner; nephews, Andrew and Wesley; brother-in-law, Bill (Lynn) Cermak; nephew, Bill Jr.; niece, Cindy; stepdaughter, Missy Marte; grandchildren, Miguel and Amanda; great grandchild, Peyton; and stepson, Michael Cermak Jr. A Memorial Service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Umatilla with Pastor Don Pratt officiating.
