Peter J. Barton's Obituary
Peter J. Barton, age 79, passed away in Eustis, FL on January 15, 2015. Born in Miami, FL October 28, 1935, he was a long time resident of Tallahassee, FL. He was a retired film producer and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
He began working at WTVJ, channel 4, Miami, while he was in college. During his career as a film producer he worked for the Florida Development Commission in Tallahassee documenting the construction of Disney World and creating other film promotions. Peter's company did the campaign promotions for Gov. Bob Graham, produced "The Elvis Presley Anthology Series " and the feature film "Cuba Crossing". Peter produced many award-winning documentaries for the US Department of Interior and won numerous Addy awards for advertising. He worked with such notables as Jose Ferrer, Oscar de la Renta and Robert Redford for Warner Brothers. He is survived by his brother and frequent collaborator, Paul Barton and sister, Joella M. Barton Foster of Leesburg, FL; two nieces Christine (Stan) Napier of Tallahassee, FL and Deborah (Michael) Andrews of Gainesville, GA; and three grand nieces, Christan and Carla Napier and Ashley Andrews. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, FL 32778, (352)343-4444. Online condolences may be left on the Tribute Wall. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 11:00AM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 4665 Thomasville Rd., Tallahassee, FL 32309. A reception will follow the service at the church.
