Even though we hadn't known Paul for a long time I had grown to love him like a brother. He was the one of the nicest people I know. He will be greatly missed by many and be me personally. Our thoughts and wishes go out to the family in this sad time. John and Donna Burney.
I have known Paul for 20 years and served on the executive board of local 3176 with him for 8 of those years. During that time we traveled together to a number of cities throughout the country for union conferences and conventions. These events were always made much more enjoyable by the fact that Paul was there. Those who knew Paul are aware that he was a big fan of Jack Daniels. Several years ago he and I were at a union conference in Nashville. On the second afternoon there the two of us had no meetings we had to attend so I suggested that we make the two hour drive to Lynchburg and visit the Jack Daniels distillery. All the way down Paul kept joking about the "tasting" that we would be enjoying. I had been there before so I was aware that the Jack Daniel distillery is in a dry county and doesn't provide "tastes". But I didn't tell Paul. At the end of the tour
they herded us into a room with large vats where the "Jack" was passing through charcoal filters. The guide, having been briefed by yours truly, picked Paul out of the crowd to do a "tasting". She told him to place his face down next to the lid of one of the vats. She quickly opened and closed it 3 or four times allowing him to get a good whiff and then told him, "There's your taste"! I'll never forget the look on his face. Thanks for your service to the union and thanks for all the memorable times. RIP, Paul. //Bob and Marsha Kelley
