Laurits M. Larsen's Obituary
Laurits M. Larsen of Mount Dora, Florida passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the age of 88 years. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Laurits & Karen Larsen who both immigrated to this country from Denmark. Lou proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II joining in 1945. After his Navy service he joined the US Marine Reserves and in 1968 went back in to the US Navy, from which he retired in 1984 with the rank of Commander. Lou also obtained his Master’s degree and worked as a civil engineer for many years. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Laurits also loved history and loved to travel with his wife. His travel often included historical sites. He also loved to fly. A member of the EAA, Experimental Aircraft Association, he worked many years on building a plane from plans. More than anything else, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael W. Larsen and Laurits W. Larsen. Lou is remembered and will be dearly missed by his wife of 67 years, Elinor; daughters, Linda Larsen of Anchorage, Alaska and Karen Larsen Vining and her husband, Chip of Hendersonville, North Carolina; son, Peter Larsen of Laguna Niguel, California; daughter-in-law, Mary Larsen of Tempe, Arizona; five grandchildren, Becky Larsen Marquez and her husband, Rob of Santa Barbara, California, Carrie Taylor and her husband, James of Surf City, North Carolina , Stephanie Larsen of Arlington, Virginia, Jonathan Vining and Elisabeth Vining, both of Hendersonville and great grandchildren Lia and Brynn. A memorial ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 4 at the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Dora. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Building Fund, First Presbyterian Church, 222 W. 6th Street, Mount Dora, FL 32757. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared on the tribute wall.
