Kenneth L. Shafar's Obituary
Kenneth LeRoy ‘Ken’ Shafar of Tavares, Florida passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at the age of 80 years. He was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Ken proudly served his country in the US Army from 1955 – 1958 in the ASA, Army Security Agency. He and his wife, Joan moved to Tavares in 1978 from Buffalo Center, Iowa. Ken was the owner of Florida Line of Astatula, a manufacturer of fiberglass pickup truck bed covers. He retired in 2001. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tavares. Ken was also a member of the Elks Lodge. He loved playing Golf and going bowling. He was also an avid fisherman. Ken is remembered and will be dearly missed by his wife of 61 years, Joan; sons, Bobbie (Peggy) Shafar of Tavares, Danny Shafar of Tavares, Jerry Shafar (Judy Phillips) of Tavares and David Shafar (Jessica Mariany) of Umatilla, Florida; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his three brothers. Family and friends are invited to gather of Friday, July 14 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. A Memorial Ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 15 at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to First United Methodist Church of Tavares, 600 W. Ianthe Street, Tavares, FL 32778. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared on the tribute wall.
