Jean D. Ireland's Obituary
Jean Downey Ireland, age 76, of Mt. Dora passed away on Friday, April 17, 2009 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her husband, Owen, and her four sons. She was born February 21, 1933 in Edinburgh, Scotland and raised in Ft. Lauderdale. She was the daughter of a Presbyterian Minister and a homemaker mother. After graduation from the University of Miami, she married Owen and moved throughout the Midwest, where Owen served as Church Pastor, ultimately returning to Ft. Lauderdale where they raised their sons. She served as a teacher, education lobbyist and ran for the State Legislature in 1976. She took great pleasure in raising her sons and traveling, particularly returning to Scotland. Jean lived throughout Florida most of her life, settling in Mt. Dora with Owen in 2006. In addition to her work at the Hospice Gift Shop in downtown Mt. Dora, she enjoyed Jazzercise, Yoga and church activities. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 10:00AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Dora. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
