Sorry for your family's loss. Jay and my mother were married late in life. My mother, Louise Marie Gilson, passed away when they lived in New Mexico around 2003. I believe Jay had her cremated and told me he was going to have her ashes buried with him in Pensacola. If anyone knows this information or anything to share, I would love to hear. Thanks so much. To all, including Uncle Sonny,I remember a stoic tough bird when visiting Uncle Sonny in the past. His laugh is what I remember the most though--a hearty, fun loving one. He lived a good life, traveling here & there to live. I never knew where I could send mail from year to year! I think his life was fulfilling, and I will always remember him being the vibrant, life loving man I saw years ago. Unfortunately, I couldn't see him in the recent years before he passed, but seeing his smile in my mind, and hearing his laugh will remain with me.Rest in peace in your new life, Uncle Sonny. We talked about him many times, remembering how crazy and full of life he always was. Uncle Sonny you were an inspiration to me to join the U.S. Navy. I remember when you showed me photos of your adventures and travels and told me sea stories of your time in the Navy when I was 10 or 11 years old. I was hooked and joined the Navy in 1979 and in about one month will retire after 30+ years in the Navy. I was planning on inviting you to my retirement ceremony as only fitting for as many years I served because of you...wish you could be there. We will miss you dearly...all Americans should have a deep appreciation for your length of service, commitment, dedication, integrity and love of country.
