Jack E. Shuttleworth's Obituary
Jack E. Shuttleworth, age 91, of Tavares passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012. He was born May 22, 1921 in Cleveland, OH. He graduated from Ridgeville High School in North Ridgeville, OH in 1939. Jack enlisted in the US Navy on Oct. 8, 1942. He spent 13 months in the South Pacific area on P.T. Boats. He was rotated home for R & R and while home he married his sweetheart Eileen K. Miller on Oct. 14, 1944. Jack went back to duty in the South Pacific in January 1945 for 10 more months. Most of this time was spent in Borneo and the Philippines. Jack was in Borneo when Japan surrendered. Jack was discharged from the Navy at Great Lakes Naval Station on Nov. 13, 1945. He was a Motor Machinist first class at the time of discharge. Upon returning to Civilian life, Jack and Eileen lived in North Ridgeville, OH for 8 years. They moved to Whittier, CA in May of 1963. Jack was a Machine Specialist (Automatic Screw Machines) both in OH and CA. He retired from Rainbird Sprinkler Mfg. Co., Azusa, CA June 1st, 1983 and moved to Tavares, FL. Jack and Eileen ran a Ceramic Shop on Old 441 in Tavares for about 10 years. After selling the inventory and property they retired completely. Jack was very active in Veteran’s affairs. He was a Commander of the D.A.V. Chapter 134 for 2 years in Mt. Dora. He was instrumental in merging Chapter 134 with Chapter 87 in Leesburg, FL. He was also a Commander of District 6 of the D.A.V. for 2 years, Commander of American Legion Post 35 in Mt. Dora for 2 years and Chef de Gare of Voiture 400 40 & 8 of Mt. Dora for 2 years. He was most proud of being Service Officer of Post 35 for many years. He was happiest helping Veterans. Also he was Chairman for Nurses Training in the 40 & 8 Voiture 400 and chaired a P.T. Boaters breakfast the first Friday of every month since 1989. His wife Eileen of 59 years, 10 months and 15 days preceded Jack in death. He is survived by his one living heir, John Shuttleworth of Tavares, FL. Although Jack was adopted by his wife’s family and had 15 nieces and nephews, two sister-in-laws and two brother-in-laws. He loved them all dearly. The family received friends on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, Tavares. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 9:00AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Mt. Dora. Interment took place at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. Arrangements were entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, FL 32778, (352)343-4444.
