H. Wally Irwin's Obituary
H. Wally Irwin of Tavares, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at the age of 79 years. She was born in Gibson, GA and moved to Florida 30 years ago from Illinois. Wally was a homemaker but also worked as a Federal Boat Captain for 5 years in the 1990’s on the Dora Canal and Lake Harris. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tavares. She was the founder of two Red Hat Societies, one in Leesburg and one at her church, and served as Queen. She was an officer at the Women’s Club in Leesburg. Wally traveled to the Dominican Republic twice, serving on Mission trips. She and her husband, Richard, volunteered for habitat for Humanity for 10 years and they also worked the Lake County election polls for 10 years. Wally was an avid gardener. She enjoyed sewing and needlepoint and quilting. She was a great cook and loved to host holidays for her family. Wally was preceded in death by her sisters, Inez Reid, Elsie Warren, Rhoda Brown and Lee Ward and step-daughter, Karen Renee Crandall. She is remembered and will be dearly missed by her husband of 42 years, Richard; sons, Alan R. Stroh of Lakeland, FL and Todd L. (Robin) Stroh of Andrew’s Air Force Base, MD; daughters, Sheri Stroh of south FL and Sandra (Chuck) Bashak of Tavares; step-daughter, Ann (Mike) Vermillion of Seminole, FL; brothers, Homer (Jan) Reese of Seattle, WA, Bud Reese of Grovetown, GA and Billy (Jennifer) Reese of Vero Beach, FL; sister, Betty (Ralph) Graves of St. Pete Beach, FL; as well as 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity or the First United Methodist Church of Tavares. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 25 at 2:00 pm at Osprey Lodge. Arrangements are entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, Tavares, FL. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared on the tribute wall.
