Eugene Stephen Waxman's Obituary
In celebration of a man loved by all, the family of Eugene (Gene) Stephen Waxman is announcing his passing Sunday, September 30, 2012 in Lake County, FL. Born on October 27, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York to Edward Eugene Waxman and Fay Greenspoon Waxman, he was their only son. He attended William & Mary (Virginia) and was a Marine where he boxed and wrestled saying, "it beat fighting bullets" – a motto he carried until his final breath. He was a Mortgage Banker who financed homes all over the country and was named as an innovator in the Who’s Who of the Mortgage industry. Gene was nicknamed the "Mouth of the South" when he moved to Florida in 1972. He helped many people grow their careers and achieve the dream of homeownership even when situations seemed hopeless. Gene was a community leader who won awards for helping revitalize the Brambleton, Virginia area of Norfolk State University. He was most proud of his contributions to others. He was a member of the NHRA, IHRA, Moose, American Legion, NRA, and Army Navy. His true passion was racing cars (or anything that moved); building or working on anything that had a motor; judging classic car shows; creating custom motorcycles; and being a mentor to his friends and family. Gene had a passion for helping people in their time of need – without being asked - and was always fixing things for others. Gene was married to Joyce H. Waxman for 19 years and remained best friends. He is survived by his 3, married children located in Central FL: Marty Waxman and his wife Shellie with daughter Triniti; Dennis Waxman and his wife Kimberley with sons Zakary & Devin; and Jennifer Waxman-Loyd and husband Casey. There are too many people to list that he referred to as his ‘other kids’ or extended family including Cheryl Josey and Shellie's daughter Lena. Gene nicknamed everyone he loved and was a natural comedian who made people laugh while adding value to conversations. Gene was referred to as Dad, Pop Pop, Gen-O, and most importantly, the ‘guy always helping others with a smile’. A gathering of friends and family is to be held on October 27th from 11:00 AM until 11:30AM, with a Memorial Service starting at 11:30AM at Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, Tavares. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, FL 32778, (352)343-4444. Online condolences may be left by signing the guestbook below.
