We met Betty and David when attending the wedding of very close NC friends that live on Oak Island. We have carried on a tradition of spending the 4th of July week vacationing in one of the many beach rentals on the island. We were lucky enough to have Betty and David join us on quite a few of these vacations. Some of the beach houses we rented are no longer there due to hurricanes (The Need Bill). One rental was named Camp David and is still on the island. We have also stayed in the Afternoon Delight which is were we spent this past 4th of July. My husband and I brought a photo album of past vacations and we all had great laughs all of us were thinner and most had more hair than today. One memory we went to a seafood restaurant and there were probably 8 to 10 of us with me being the only one not liking seafood. All you can eat crab legs. We were there over an hour laughing shucking (I think that's what you call it when you crack the leg). I believe the establishment started over salting the boil to get rid of us. I enjoyed while II had my chicken. I think Reva had chicken too. Good food for most GREAT memories for all.
I met Betty when I was just a little girl. She and my Dad had an awesome life. They rode motorcycles, played tennis and toured the Chesapeake Bay every weekend for years on their boat. In the summer months when Betty was not teaching she'd take me crabbing on a dock just down the street from their house. We also spent some time in Ocean City, Maryland. She'd play cards on the beach while I swam and played in the ocean. She LOVED to play cards! She introduced American Girl Dolls to my daughter and Hess Trucks to my son. Both timeless toys that will be cherished for years to come. I have dresses, quilts, purses and beaded jewelry she has made for me over the years that I can remember her by. I love you. Dani
It happened so quickly it's hard to believe. Betty was our friend and card-playing buddy and we shall miss her. David, you are in our thoughts and prayers. Linda and Charlie
