Edward R. Bergeron's Obituary
Edward R. Bergeron was born in Westerly, Rhode Island on March 4th, 1946. He passed away on Saturday, September 19th, 2015 surrounded by his family at the age of 69 years.
He is remembered and will be sadly missed by his wife of 47 years, Melody (Charron) Bergeron; son, Edward K. Bergeron of Tavares, FL; daughter, Melissa Bergeron-Brennan of Tavares; 6 grandchildren, Makayla Bergeron of New London, CT, Edward Brock Bergeron of Tavares, Bradley Bergeron of Tavares, Dylan Brennan of Orlando, Ryan Brennan of Tavares and Patrick Brennan of Tavares; his brother, Robert (Diane) Bergeron of Norwich, CT; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Phyllis (Kessel) Bernier, step-father, Leopold Bernier, father, Gerald Bergeron and his brother, Gerald Bergeron.
Ed will always be remembered as a sports enthusiast. Growing up in Plainfield, CT, he played on the baseball, football and basketball teams. Later, he coached many of his son’s little league and youth basketball teams in Westerly. He loved all of the New England sports teams. He collected Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, and Celtic memorabilia. Ed was also an animal lover.
Ed was employed at Electric Boat, a division of General Dynamics, in Croton, CT for 36 years. He retired in 2005.
Upon retiring, Ed and Mel enjoyed spending winters in Florida with their children and grandchildren. He looked forward to going to their family campsite in Lisbon, Connecticut. Ed loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed swimming.
A memorial ceremony will be held at Bridges Covenant Church, 1100 N. St. Clair Abrams Avenue, Tavares, FL on Sunday, October 11th at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778; www.cshospice.org
