Dorothy McCune's Obituary
Dorothy Marsh McCune, age 85, of Mt. Dora passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010. She was born in Akron, Ohio, to Ray and May (Rhodes) Marsh, formerly of Eustis, Florida. Dorothy was an original snowbird, spending half of each of her childhood years in Ohio and the other half in Eustis. She graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in music. As a young woman, she taught music in the Springfield School System in Ohio. She obtained her Masters of Library Science from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. She spent the remainder of her professional years working in various public high schools in Florida's Miami-Dade School District, after making Florida her full-time home in the 1950's. Dorothy was an avid gardener and served as president of the Eustis Garden Club for several years. She also enjoyed memberships in The DAR and PEO. She maintained her love of music over the years, serving as an organist for several churches. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Eustis, where she enjoyed many years as a member of the Chancel Choir and the Gold Handbell Choir.A Memorial Service for Mrs. McCune was held at 10:00AM on Friday, January 22, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church of Eustis. Interment took place at Hillside Memorial Park in Ohio. Arrangements were entrusted to Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, FL 32778.
