David Alan Steele's Obituary
David Alan Steele, 86, of Leesburg, FL passed away October 22, 2024. Born in Miami, FL on January 3, 1938, David was the second oldest of six children and became the rock of his family. Moving to Miramar, FL and later starting his own family with wife, Patricia Marie, he became the rock of our family and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend and patriarch.
David was an avid Harley-Davidson rider, traveling the roads of Lake and Broward counties on a regular basis. He and his wife, Patricia made numerous trips to Bike Week and Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach. They even rode to the 100th anniversary of Harley-Davidson in Milwaukee, WI. In total he logged 300,000 miles between his Ultra Classic and Tri Glide Ultra Classic.
After graduating from Miami Edison High School, he served in the U.S. Army by completing basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC, and had two assignments of active duty.
Following his military service, David graduated from Broward Police Academy in Fort Lauderdale and became a patrolman and canine officer for the Miramar Police Department. After nearly six years with that agency, he became an investigator with the Broward County School Board Special Investigations Unit for 33 years.
Always patriotic, David was a member of several veterans’ organizations in Lake County. In 2011 he was even 1st Vice Commander of AMVETS Post 1992 in Mount Dora.
David is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia, sons David Jr. and Thomas, and daughter Teresa Schwarz; grandchildren Ashleigh, Zachary and Bradley; and great-grandchildren Michael, Wesley and Adrienne.
Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home will host a gathering for family and friends on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 10 a.m. and a memorial service at 11 a.m. A military ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Florida National cemetery in Bushnell. The Steele family is requesting that guests wear casual motorcycle attire or patriotic clothing.
Flowers can be sent to the funeral home or memorial donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
