Some of my fondest memories are of trips to Florida and going to see Uncle Charlie on his boat. I even remember at about 8 years old Bill and I got a brief turn at the wheel. I did not personaly know Capt. Charlie however from all that I have heard and read he was the personification of "The Greatest Generation". A young man who joins the USCG in a time of a great war... Selfless... a man who takes over the helm of a troop transport ship on her way to battle when the helmsman falls ill...Selfless...a man by all accounts who was loved by all...Selfless... A man with campaign ribbons with bronze stars from both the European and Pacific theaters...
