Carmen Onila Droz Orlando's Obituary
Carmen Onila Droz Orlando, 88, a long-time resident of the area, died Thursday the 15th of September at Florida Hospital Waterman in Tavares, Florida.
Born on July 12, 1928 in the Panama Canal Zone, Panama, Carmen grew up with her two sisters, Dora and Anna, and two brothers, Ralph and Bill, raised by her parents Guillermo and Etelvina Droz (née Mallarino). She was vocationally trained as a seamstress in the Bronx, New York. She met and married her late husband, Lt. Joseph Orlando (RET US NAVY) in 1948. Over a marriage of 63 wonderful years, Carmen and Joseph lived in 22 homes spanning from Spain, Chile, and Panama to all over the Eastern Seaboard. After settling into the Central Florida area, Carmen worked in the Orange and Lake County school systems for over 35 years.
Carmen loved socializing with her school friends and trying her luck at the slot machines. For 12 years, she bowled in a league at Classique Bowling Center in Tavares until just last year.
Carmen is survived by her Daughter: Doranna Hout, of Tavares; and two Sons: Thomas Orlando, of Sorrento and Joseph Orlando Jr., of Leesburg; her Sister: Dora Droz, of Sorrento; Five Grandchildren, and Two Great- Grandchildren, all who brought great joy to her later years. Carmen Onila Droz Orlando was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by many. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Wednesday September 21, 2016 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Steverson Hamlin and Hilbish Funeral Home.
