Barbara M. Swaim's Obituary
Barbara M. Swaim, 84, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 10, 2020. Barbara was born in Greencastle, Indiana on June 13, 1936 to Ovid and Velma Muir. She received the prestigious title of Suma Cum Laude when graduating from IVY TECH in Indiana. She was 55 years young when she received her degree in 1992. Church, faith and fellowship were an important part of Barbara's life. She was a volunteer of the American Heart Association, a Girl Scout Leader, Past President of United Methodist Women and she worked at the district superintendents office for the Terre Haute, Indiana district of the United Methodist Church. Barbara was also a devoted member of Tavares First United Methodist Church and was very committed to their weekly Bible study. She was also a Lay Speaker with the United Methodist Church. Barbara is survived by her daughters; Rebecca Ann Little (Barry) of Leesburg, Florida and Laura Sue Swaim of Fernandina Beach, Florida and granddaughter Elizabeth Louise Abney (Michael) of Charlotte, North Carolina. Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, John Swaim, who passed on April 18, 2019. A gathering of friends and family is scheduled for Saturday, October 17th from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, Florida 32778. Her celebration of life service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Mike Briggs officiating. Barbara's place of rest will be with John at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville, Indiana.
