Alexander 'Sandy' P. Anderson, Jr.'s Obituary
Alexander 'Sandy' P. Anderson, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the age of 76 years.
In 1952, ten-year-old Sandy emigrated from Scotland with his parents Alexander (Alec) and Janet B (Jenny) Anderson and his brothers David and John B. He said he complained all the way that no one had consulted him about this move! Quickly, he came to love his new country, where rationing was over. Here, there was ice cream, bubble gum, fishing, & fancy cars.
After graduation from high school at 16, he joined the Coast Guard. Sadly, his color blindness made him ineligible to continue. At 18, he went to work at IBM Poughkeepsie. At 21, he was the youngest to make manager. During his career, went from feeding metal filaments into microchips by hand to travelling internationally, coaching semiconductor companies in Taiwan and Singapore in inventory control. After his retirement, his analytical mind was always ready to tackle a new set of data for local businesses and even political campaigns.
He met and married Trudy, his life partner, at 24. He and Trudy celebrated 50+ years of marriage. Their 3 children Sara Anderson Youngman, Joshua S Anderson and Janet Katherine Anderson will miss him very much. Sara’s spouse, Kipp Youngman, and children: Sabrina, Vanessa, Dezirae, and Kipp, Jr. were much a part of his life. He loved to cheer them on at sports events.
After 36 years at IBM he decided to retire and open a business growing, selling and teaching Bonsai. He was well known for sharing this love. His many other interests included fishing, bird watching and after his recent move to Mount Dora, Florida searching for alligators.
Pancreatic cancer is a horrendous disease and robbed us much too soon of a vital, energetic force for good.
Condolences, memories and photos may be shared on the tribute wall.
