Winifred B. "Winnie" Steinbeck's Obituary
Winifred B. Steinbeck passed away on her Lord’s Day, Sunday, September 15, 2013 in Mount Dora, FL. Winnie was born May 28, 1925 in Charleston, WV, the daughter of the late Althea Bradley Patteson. She was a graduate of the St. Francis School of Nursing in Charleston. During her training, as a member of the Army Nurse Corps, she served at the VA hospital in Lexington, KY. After graduation, she was employed at a VA hospital in Los Angeles. She met her future husband, William Kelley Steinbeck, a native of West Virginia, in Los Angeles where his ship was being decommissioned after World War II. They returned to West Virginia to be married and she continued her nursing career at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Parkersburg. During her years in Parkersburg, she was a member of North Parkersburg Baptist Church. After moving to Mount Dora in 1981, she joined First Baptist Church of Mount Dora, where she was active in the prayer ministry. Winnie was a charter volunteer of Hospice of Lake and Sumter Counties. She is survived by her children, Sue and Dan (Marty) of Parkersburg, and David (Suzie) of Winston-Salem, NC; and her grandchildren, Sarah Steinbeck and her fiancé, Paul Adelson of Denver, CO and Timothy Steinbeck of Winston-Salem. Also surviving are her sister, Norma (Dwight) Musser of Scott Depot, WV; four nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years in 2006, Bill, an infant son, and her mother. Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. A funeral ceremony will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Her final resting place will be next to her husband at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Arrangements are entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, Tavares, FL. Condolences may be shared on the tribute wall.
