William Dixie Purser's Obituary
William Dixie Purser, 101, of Tavares, FL, passed away on February 5, 2023. He was born on January 23, 1922, in Vanceboro, NC. In 1938 he finished high school and went on to work for Newport News in VA after high school. He entered apprentice school for the Newport News Shipyard in 1939 and graduated in 1943 as a supervisor.
William married Lois Blakemoore in July or 1943, the Army drafted him in 1944 to help build a military shipyard in the Philippines. Later he returned to Newport New Shipyard in 1946. In 1950 he left Virginia and registered at Logan Chiropractic College. Four years later as a Dr of Chiropractor he started his business in Portsmouth, VA. In 1976 he retired to Florida and developed the Oaks Campground in Bushnell, FL. In 1954 they had one child, William D. Purser II. After Lois Purser died, he sold the campground and enjoyed retirement since then. Lois was a talented musician, playing on television, St Louis night spots, theaters and churches. Dr. Purser had a hobby of flying airplanes from California, Caribbean, Canada, South America, Rio and Buenos Aires. A service will be held at a later date in New Port News, VA.
