William Robert Haylett's Obituary
William Robert Haylett, 78, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away on January 16, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on June 29, 1947, in Lockport, New York, to the late William A. Haylett and Dorothy Haylett.
William proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army National Guard, completing six years of service and achieving the rank of Sergeant. His commitment to public service continued throughout his life, including his work as a Sheriff’s Deputy, Building Inspector, and FEMA Inspector. He later retired with honor through the New York State Police Retirement System.
For the past 15 years, William made Florida his home. He was a member of the Catholic faith, and he found community and camaraderie through the Blue Knight Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, an organization that brought him great joy and lifelong friendships. His love of adventure took him across the country by motorcycle and even to Europe for a Blue Knight Convention.
William had a passion for fishing, woodworking, and traveling. Whether it was time spent on the water, building something with his hands, or exploring new places on two wheels, William embraced life fully and with enthusiasm.
On November 9, 1991, William married the love of his life, Judy, in Pendleton, New York. Together they shared 34 years of marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and countless memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Dorothy Haylett.
William is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; his children William A. Haylett II, Marybeth Lester, Jill Aichinger, and Kelly Kuzara; his sister Barbara Bartholomew; 11 grandchildren, 8 great‑grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Service Information
A gathering will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 10:00–11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home in Tavares, Florida.
