Wanda J. Bender's Obituary
Wanda Joy (Yoder) Bender of Tavares, Florida passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at the age of 66 years. She was born in Lewistown, Pennsylvania and lived there for many years. She met Amos in Lewistown and they fell in love. They were married on June 25, 1988. They moved to this area in 2000 from Pennsylvania. Wanda was a homemaker, taking good care of Amos. She also worked for Eustis Heights Elementary School and Mineola Elementary School, then started as a bus assistant and later became a secretary for the transportation department. She retired after 13 years. She is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tavares, where she was very active. She volunteered with the youth group at church. She also hosted teens through the Forward Paths Foundation. She loved to cook, cooking for the youth, Tavares Lions Bingo and others. She also liked to decorate for the holidays. She had a service dog, Chico. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin D and Margaret Yoder and her sister, Debra Yoder. She is remembered and will be dearly missed by her husband of 31 years, Amos Bender, brothers, Stanley (Liz) Yoder and Nelson (Debra) Yoder; sisters, Brenda Shoop, Sandy Newman and Barbara (Andy) McCrea.
A Celebration of Life was held at First United Methodist Church in Tavares on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 4:00PM. A Celebration of LIfe will be held at Maple Grove Mennonite Church Belleveill, Pennsylvania on Saturday, February 15th, 2020 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church (youth group) or Forward Paths Foundation, Leesburg, Florida.
