Walter Juszkiewicz's Obituary
Walter (Smitty) Juszkiewicz of Tavares, Florida passed away peacefully at Cornerstone Hospice on April 30, 2018 surrounded by loving family.
Smitty was born September 28, 1937 in New York City, N.Y. After completing high school, he joined the Navy and made it his career. He honorably served his country for 24 years. He retired in 1977 as a CWO3. Upon retiring from the Navy, he worked as an aeronautical engineer doing aviation maintenance manuals for government contractors. In 2000 he retired from the Norfolk, Virginia area to Central Florida.
He spent his retirement years boating and fishing on the beautiful Harris chain of lakes, played golf and darts and enjoyed card games with friends. He was also very active at the Golden Triangle Moose Lodge, VFW, Eagles, Amvets and Lake Veterans Club. He loved socializing with friends and just really enjoying life. He worked hard and played hard. He was very happy in his retirement and had many, many wonderful friends. It can always be said that he enjoyed life and as the Frank Sinatra song said “I Did It My Way”. Coincidentally that song was playing on the TV music station as he drew his final breath.
Smitty is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Betty Juszkiewicz, her daughter Maria Merritt (Tommy), her son Billy Portt (Sharon), his son Michael Juszkiewicz (Lori) and his daughters Lisa John (Chuck) and Denise Anderson (Tommy).
