Mrs. Virginia Gregory Duncan, age 87, presently of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away on Tuesday evening, April 9, 2013 at Quality Health Care of Fernandina Beach. Born in Havana, FL, she was one of three children born to the late R Read Obituary
Virginia Duncan was a good woman and, more importantly, an exceptional human being. Time may heal the feeling of loss Doug, Greg, Scott, and Bruce now share. However, as they, to a large extent, have their mother to thank for whatever traits they value in themselves, her influence will be with them for ever.

Oh, the memories of this great Lady! Growing up in Tavares was a warm experience, we were all like family. I remember Mrs. Duncan and my mother in the Tavares Woman's Club and being a part of many church activities at the First United Methodist Church, especially every year for vacation bible school. Greg and I were in school together from 1st grade through 12th. Doug and my sister (Linda) were in the same class. If you grew up here you knew the Duncan Family! The Duncan family will always hold a special spot in my heart. George and I express our sympathy to the entire family. She is now whole again and with a wonderful husband and many great family and friends who have gone before her. I imagine there is one of those traditional Methodists "pot luck" dinners being planned right now, Mrs. Duncan was always a very gracious host. Mrs. Duncan will be remembered for her southern charm, dedication to her husband and family, her service to her church, and most of all for just being Ms. Virginia. It is an honor to have know her and to help celebrate her life. God bless you all.

I'm proud to be a cousin of the Duncan family. There are many wonderful memories of Joe and Virginia (loved her southern accent!), Joe's parents-Essie and Leonard who lived next door to my grandparents, Cousin Pearl, and of course growing up with Doug and his younger brothers. Bless your family, enjoy the memories and celebrate a wonderful lady!

Where do I begin? Was so saddened to hear of Mrs. Duncan's passing, but she is free and with her dear husband, Joe.
The Duncan family was a big part of my growing up in Tavares. Scott and I went to kindergarten and high school together as well as the First United Methodist Church in Tavares where Ms. Duncan was one of my Sunday School teachers. She was such an inspiration in her teachings. Was so proud of Scott when he became an architect.
Everyone was so proud of Doug in town when he got appointed to military school out of high school.
Greg was like another son to my mom and dad as he played for my father, Coach Morgan, and was a high school basketball star here in Lake Co.
Bruce and my brother, H.T., went all thru grade school together and have such funny memories of them as youngsters.
Mrs. Duncan was so proud of all of her children as was their father who was always so humble.
Although it has been years since I have seen her, I can still picture her and her smiling face. She did have a way with us kids though, when she wanted us to mind, we minded.
She was a dear and faithful person and will surely be missed by many.

Virginia and I played on the Bank of Tavares baseball team in the 70's. Art Rich was our coach and we made many wonderful memories. Joe and I worked together at the Bank of Tavares for many years. A wonderful family who gave so much to our community.
