Virginia Gaylord Clark's Obituary
Virginia Gaylord Clark, age 93 of Tavares, Fl, entered into eternal rest on Sunday 3 January, 2016 at The Cove with her loving family by her side. Born in Bridgeport, CT on 13 December, 1922, where she spent her early years. She was the daughter of the late Marguerite (Gaylord) and Frederick J. Chapman. She lived most recently in Tavares, FL for 38 years, previously in Elmira, NY for 33 years, with brief stays in Texas and Kansas when her husband Leigh was in the service. Virginia was a devoted wife to Lt Col (ret) Leigh W. Clark USAF for 72 years. After retirement, Virginia and Leigh traveled the USA in their RV, visiting nearly every state. She was very active in the Elmira Home Bureau, Girl Scouts, and the PTA. She loved children, and together with Leigh, she hosted both foster children and fresh air children at their home in Elmira, NY. Virginia was a friend to many, especially the Lake Harris Shores Community in Tavares. She was also very active with the Lake County Quilters Guild. Virginia was an artisan quilter and crafted many prize winning quilts, which she shared with her family and friends. She is survived by her spouse Leigh, daughter Kathleen and husband Christopher Graham of Pittsford, NY, sisters Evelyn Wright of Tavares, FL, Jacqueline Blanchard of Burlington, VT, brother Frederick J. Chapman Jr. of Trumbull, CT, five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son David L. Clark, sisters Elizabeth and her husband Roy Coover, Doris and her husband Dean Costas, Louise and her husband Steven DelVento, and sister-in-law Evelyn Chapman. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and Aunt. She loved her family deeply. The family would like to thank the Cornerstone Hospice, Tavares, for their care, concern and professionalism. Her caregivers at The Cove, especially Ivy, Janet, Angela, and Maude went above and beyond to help make her last days more comfortable.
