Thomas Clayburn Vanzant, age 80, of Tavares, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2026. He was born on June 12, 1945, in Eustis, Florida, and was a lifelong resident of Lake County.
Thomas was a loving husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather whose life centered around his family. He found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved, especially during his retirement years, which he devoted to making memories with family and friends at the hunting camp—a place that truly felt like home to him.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Thomas had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Whether in the woods or on the water, he was happiest surrounded by nature and good company. His stories, laughter, and steady presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Thomas dedicated 40 years of faithful service to Lake County Schools, where he worked as a mechanic. Known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and mechanical skill, he took great pride in his work and the relationships he built throughout his career.
He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 61 years, Geraldine Vanzant; children: Lonnie Paul Vanzant, Carl Ray Vanzant, Tony Clay Vanzant, Robert Steedley, Jennifer Steedley, Marvin Steedley, and Retta Alvin.
He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Paul Vanzant, Thomas Vanzant, Joshua Vanzant, Erica Vanzant, James Vanzant, Breanna Vanzant, Christopher Vanzant, Alyssa Vanzant, Cameron Vanzant, Carl Vanzant, Jr., Harley Vanzant, Clayburn Vanzant, Jackson Vanzant, Grace Vanzant, Noah Vanzant.
Thomas was blessed with great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and happiness: Owen Vanzant, Layton Vanzant, Mason Vanzant, Alexandra Vanzant, Guinevere Vanzant, Lexy Vanzant, Alexis Vanzant, Dalton Vanzant, Devan Vanzant, Brooklin Vanzant, Aiden Vanzant, and Braylen Vanzant.
Thomas Clayburn Vanzant leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love for family, and a life well lived. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
