Susan Beth Crumpler's Obituary
Susan Beth Crumpler passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 18th after a courageous battle with cancer. She is proceeded in death by her father, Carl B. Crumpler. She is survived by her mother, Mary Jane Crumpler; her brothers Michael Crumpler (Debbie Crumpler) and Todd Crumpler; her sister Leigh Ann Eitler (Jack Eitler); and five nieces and nephews: Carolyn Crumpler Kalnin, Lauren Crumpler, Carl Crumpler, Matthew Eitler and Suzanne Eitler. “Aunt Boo” as she was affectionately known to her nieces and nephews was a wonderful role model for her family. She is also survived by several extended family members, friends and coworkers who loved her dearly.
Beth received her bachelors degree from Florida State University and her law degree from University of Arkansas Little Rock Law School. She was an avid college football fan, cheering on her Seminoles each season. She loved traveling, watching movies, reading (mostly about history) and decorating/interior design.
In August, Beth would have celebrated her 20th anniversary working for the Office of the State Attorney, Fifth Judicial Circuit of Florida as a senior prosecutor, Assistant State Attorney, in the Special Victims Unit. Beth was one of those few people who actually loved her job and wanted to go to work even as she battled cancer. She was a tough prosecutor who spent years prosecuting some of the worst offenders in society. Beth was instrumental in starting a program to allow therapy animals to accompany children into the courtroom to provide comfort and companionship to children who had been victims of crime. After Beth started the program in Lake County, it quickly became accepted practice throughout the Courts of the entire State of Florida and thousands of children have benefitted as a result. In addition, Beth volunteered as a judge in Teen Court, a program overseen by county probation that works with first time juvenile offenders. Beth was a big part of the program and helped a lot of the kids along the way.
Because of her dedicated work as a career prosecutor, Beth's legacy will live on with the many victims of crime who she helped to provide justice, comfort and closure.
“The Celebration of Life which was to take place at O'Keefe's Irish Pub and Restaurant in Tavares on Friday, July 24th from 3:30pm-6:00pm has been cancelled due to COVID-19. There are no plans to reschedule in the near future.”
