Ruth S. Christy's Obituary
Qvera “Ruth” S. Christy
March 7, 1926-August 22, 2024
Ruth S. Christy, 98, passed away peacefully in God’s arms at her home in Mount Dora, Florida on August 22, 2024.
Ruth was born on March 7, 1926, in Stanton, TX to Lena Mae Fitzgerald Stroud and John Penny Stroud. She was the seventh of 10 children and grew up on a 300+ acre cotton farm. She is predeceased by her mother and father, Lena Mae Fitzgerald and John Penny Stroud; her 4 sisters, Bonita Hart, Madge Soule, Marianna Williams, and Sue Elrod; her 5 brothers, Weldon, J.A., Donald, Wayne, and Elmer Lee Stroud; her husbands, Edward Holloway and Charles Christy; and her 2 adopted children, Michael and Penny Holloway. She is survived by many nieces and nephews; her 3 beautiful granddaughters, Breila Fisher and her husband, Sid, Brangwain Etheridge and her husband, Jeremy, and Analysia Savage; and her 3 handsome great-grandsons, James, Colton, and Wyatt; many friends, and Christian sisters and brothers.
Ruth was recruited directly out of college in her twenties to serve in the USO in Germany right after WWII. She served as a military truck driver for our American soldiers. There was only one seat up front and all the young men fought for that honorable position. She was dedicated and active representative to her Republican Party.
Ruth was a hard worker, a dedicated student, a USO volunteer, secretary, post-office worker, nanny, dedicated wife, loving mother, Nomie (grandmother), and Grand-Nomie (great grandmother). She loved adventure and traveling all over the United States, Europe, and Mexico. She loved to read, listening and “dancing” to music, especially Big Band Orchestras. She was a ballroom dancer. Some of her favorite words you could always find her saying were Danke Schoen & Wunderbar (Thank you & Wonderful in German); Gorgeous, simple Gorgeous (in a Scarlet O’Hara voice); Hello Darlin (said with that sweet southern Texas drawl); Bombdiggity; “Loverly”; and Hotdiggity Dog!
Ruth was all of 104 lbs. and could eat any man “under the table”! Some of her favorites were BBQ pulled chicken, fried okra, baked beans, coleslaw, and garlic bread from Sonny’s; Grilled rock shrimp with a house salad topped with house blue cheese dressing from Longhorn’s; Grilled Salmon Salad with strawberries substituted for the cucumbers topped with raspberry vinegarette
dressing from Peach Valley; Veggie pizza with added pineapple, artichokes, sausage, and pepperoni from Pizzamore; Homemade pecan pie; and Hagen Daas’s butter pecan ice cream.
Ruth was very humble in spirit, vivaciously spirited in life, and incredibly thankful for every blessing from God. She loved the Lord with all her heart, mind, soul, and strength and she truly never met a stranger. She loved others and they loved her! She will be terribly missed, but we will see her soon! Our love to our “Beautiful Ruth”!
