Rudolph Archibald Pfuhl's Obituary
Rudolph “Rudy” Archibald Pfuhl of Grand Island, Florida passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the age of 87 years. He was born on January 28th, 1930 in New Rochelle Park, NJ and as legend has it, it was on a wicker couch located in the original Swiss Chalet owned by his parents, Carl and Louisa Pfuhl. Rudy went on to run this same restaurant until 1966. He later on moved to South Florida. After a long career in the car business, he retired with his wife Carol to Grand Island, Florida; finding part-time employment working as a toll booth attendant. Rudy graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture. Rudy never met a stranger in his life. Rudy loved fishing, gardening, and cooking. Rudy will be remembered and dearly missed by his sister, Louise Darby and her three sons, Carl, Duffy and J.B.; son, Riley Sanders and his wife, Julie of Somerset, Massachusetts; daughters, Valerie Pfuhl of Ecuador, Geri Lit and her husband, Steve of Ecuador, Chrissy Kalisher of South Florida, Toony Griemann and her husband, Paul of Germantown, Ohio and Katy Russell and her husband, Chris of Bowling Green, Missouri; son-in-law, Dan Ryncarz of Cumming, GA; grandchildren, Rachel Sanders, William Sanders, Matthew (Polly) Ryncarz, Amanda Hanahoe and her husband, Richie, Jessica Lit, and Aliyah Wise ; great grandchildren, Bella and Madison Ryncarz, and Gavin Hanahoe; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Mac. Rudy was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice Foley Pfuhl; his second wife, Carol Joyce Pfuhl; son, Jamie Polevorde; daughter Janice Ryncarz; and a brother, Charles Pfuhl. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Boys Town Central Florida, 975 Oklahoma St., Oviedo, FL 32765. A Celebration of Life will be held at Rudy’s home in Grand Island on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 2:00PM.
