Ronald Joseph Smith's Obituary
Ronald Joseph Smith, known affectionately as Ron, passed away on August 15, 2024, in Mount Dora, FL, at the age of 87. Born on January 25, 1937, in Buffalo, NY, to Florence and Kenneth Smith into a humble working-class family. He had a vibrant and impactful life and will be greatly missed.
Ron had an illustrious career as a salesman specializing in dry-cleaning plant machinery, chemicals and supplies before becoming an entrepreneur. After the Blizzard of '77 in Buffalo NY, he moved his family to Orlando, FL where he eventually proudly owned and operated Nu-Way Cleaners in Plant City, FL and later, a Pinch a Penny pool store in the same town working side by side with his wife, Joyce. His work ethic and dedication to his business were admired by many in the community.
Ron leaves behind a loving family including his beloved wife of 66 years, Joyce, his daughter Cathy Smith Ingle (Tom) as well as his son Gregory Smith (Sharon). His grandchildren, Kaley Ingle Brooks (Danny), Will Ingle, Taylor Smith, Skyler Smith and the apple of his eye, great grandson Cooper Brooks. His family remembers him as a loving and dedicated family man, whose guidance and affection will be deeply missed. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Kenneth Smith, and his two siblings, Maryann (Sissy) Siller and Kenneth(Kenny) Smith.
Apart from his professional life, Ron was an avid golfer and spent many joyful hours on the golf course. This hobby not only filled his leisure hours but also reflected his love for the outdoors and sportsmanship. He loved to watch his beloved Buffalo Bills along with the Florida State Seminoles and the Florida Atlantic Owls college football. After retirement Ron and Joyce loved to travel with countless cruises and trips around the world to Hawaii, California, Spain, Europe, especially to Scotland accomplishing his lifelong dream to play golf at St. Andrews Old Course, the home of Golf. He loved when the whole family would come spend time at their beach condo in St. Augustine, FL or their mountain cabin in Linville, NC. He really loved being with his family and having a reason to celebrate something especially Christmas!
A private family memorial service will be held in Mt. Dora, FL. Additionally, a private graveside memorial service will take place in Marilla, NY, at the family plot honoring his life and legacy. His warmth and generosity will be missed by all who knew him.
