Roger Lee Dumas' Obituary
Roger Lee Dumas (also known as Pete), age 85, of Tavares went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 14, 2016. He was born January 21, 1931 in Covington, KY to William and Valanda Dumas. He has one brother, Thomas (Frances) Dumas living in Wilton, CA. Roger was an active sportsman, playing baseball, football, and basketball in high school. He won many certificates in fishing tournaments, teaching his daughters and grandsons the love of fishing. In his later years he was one of the first softball players at his residence in Royal Harbor. And finally his favorite group game of Bocce Ball. He was proud to be a Marine and served 2 years active duty and 6 years reserve. He met the love of his life in the 4th grade, but they became sweethearts in high school. Mattie Lue and Roger married September 2, 1950 and recently celebrated 65 years together. Their love, with God’s help, gave them 4 daughters, Peggy Riffle (deceased), Valerie Keppinger, Rebecca (Ed) Vazquez, and Jennifer (Scott) Jacobs; grandchildren, Richard (Sarah) Fox, Kimberly Fox, Billy and Jeff Keppinger, Nick (Danielle) Baltzell, Ashlee (Bryan) Shepard, Ashley (Dan) Liparini, Caleb Jacobs (deceased), Daniel, Mark and Luke Jacobs; and 12 great-grandchildren. All were blessings to him. Roger became a baptized Christian December 1946 and has been faithful until his passing. He was a Bible School teacher, Deacon, Elder, BS Superintendent and was part of starting a new Christian church in Miramar, FL. Never without his Bible when going to church. He loved the Lord, church and very proud of his family. He will be missed by all, especially his loving wife. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 10:00AM until 11:00AM at Adventure Christian Church, Tavares. A Funeral Service will follow in the church at 11:00AM. Interment will take place at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, 226 E.
