Mr. Robert Alvin Orie 's Obituary
Robert Alvin Orie, went to be with his Lord, Thursday, March 12, 2020. Robert was born on April 20, 1927 in Canton, Connecticut to John and Eva Adams Orie. After snow-birding the Country for 20 years, Robert and his wife Mary moved from Connecticut to Tavares, Florida in 1972 and relocated to Grand Island, Florida in 2010. Robert and Mary were the owners of Orie Amoco Gas Station for many years. Robert also served his Country proudly in the United States Army. He was the only messenger assigned to deliver messages and correspondences in and out of the Nuremberg Trials at the end of World War II.
Robert is survived by his sons; Tommy Lombard (Shelly), Edward Gregory (Paula) and Pat Gregory (Cece), daughters; Cheryl Sayen (Ted) and Sandy Gingell, brothers; Tom, Jim and Tony Orie, 8 grandchildren; Brian, Matthew, Cortney, Timothy, Cathy, Kyle, Chris and Kimberly, 6 great grandchildren; Nadia, Gabriel, BJ, Alexander, Ryker, Evelyn and beloved fur baby; Ruby, who was Robert's savior. Robert was predeceased by his son Gerald Daniel Gregory, brothers; Jack and Eugene Orie and beloved wife of 50 years, Mary, who passed in 2018.
A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for Thursday, March 19th at 11:00 AM at Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, 226 E. Burliegh Blvd., Tavares, Florida, 32778 with the United States Army performing Military Honors. Robert's place of rest will be with his comrades at arms at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida in private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Robert's memory to Vitas Healthcare, 127 N. Bay Street, Suite 200, Eustis, Florida 32726
