Robert Herman Vehmeier's Obituary
Robert Herman Vehmeier, age 89, of Tavares, FL passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2010. He was born August 28, 1921 in Lena, Illinois and moved to Central Florida in 1979 from NY. Robert was a supervisor with the telephone company in Manhattan where he designed the 911 system for the city. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in WWII. He was a member of St. Philip Lutheran Church, Mt. Dora and a member of the Telephone Pioneers where he volunteered for over 20 years with Talking Books. Robert was also an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eleanor Elizabeth Vehmeier; son, Robert C. (Cynthia)Vehmeier of Tavares, FL; brother, Melvin Vehmeier of Freeport, IL; sister, Charlotte Buss of Freeport, IL; grandson, John David (Shauna) Vehmeier of Tavares, FL. The family received friends at Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, Tavares on Thursday, December 30, 2010 from 3:30PM until 5:30PM, with a Funeral Service following at 5:30PM. Interment took place at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Rd., Tavares, FL 32778. Arrangements were entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, FL 32778.
