To Teresa and children of Ricky Carr: My sincerest condolences on your loss. Ricky Carr was an outstanding person and I’m glad I knew him and considered him a friend. Another person from that organization shared a photo of him on a Facebook page and I had to do something. I admired Ricky so much.
We served together from 1988 through 1990 in Delta Company 3-35 Armor. I considered him a friend. He had an infectious personality. He was hard not to like. He was and is a good man.
I lost touch with him after I left the company for another assignment. There is a saying in the army, you never say goodbye, but until the next time we meet. Only that never happened. But I never forgot Ricky or any of the others in my platoon.
I’m the guy in the picture shaking Ricky’s hand at his enlistment. I believe it was my first one I played a part in... I read his oath. It meant so much to me that a man like him wanted me to be a part of his special day. That he saved the photo means maybe it meant a lot to him too.
I’ve tried to reconnect with people I was associated with back then but didn’t have much luck. People like Ricky are old school and private. I respect that, Still, I wanted to reinforce what you already know, that Ricky Carr was special. By the photos in the tribute it looks like he had a wonderful life. I am so proud for him and you. He will be missed.
Respectfully,
Jeff Knight
