Richard Ellis Wetherell's Obituary
Richard Ellis Wetherell, 89, of Leesburg, FL, passed away on January 14, 2025. He was born on June 23, 1935, to his parents: Austin and Helen (Pierce) Wetherell and was from East Rockaway, NY. Richard retired as teacher in education. He was a coach for weightlifting and track & field, Commodore of a Yacht club, member of the Shriners, Masons, Captain of East Rockaway Fire Dept, avid golfer and woodworker.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years: Rose Wetherell; children: Michael (Maria) Wetherell, Lisa (John) Schroeder, Christopher (Carolyn) Wetherell and stepson: Mark (Tammy) Bogi. Grandchildren: Nicholas, Zachary, Brendan, Nicole, Matthew, Joseph, Ashlyn, Ryan, Benjamin, Christopher and 10 great grandchildren. Siblings: Jean Wolters and Austin Wetherell. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years: Fredine Wetherell and daughter: Joy Simeti.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 9:30AM-10:00AM with funeral service to begin at 10:00AM at the Steverson, Hamlin and Hilbish Chapel in Tavares, FL. Burial will take place following the service at Tavares Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
