Richard G. Cass' Obituary
Richard G. Cass of Tavares, Florida passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at the age of 92. Richard was born in Galion, Ohio to Melvin E. and Carrie A. Cass. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps. After his military service, Richard attained his Bachelor of Science Degree in business administration from Bowling Green State University, graduating in 1960. He then went into real estate and owned Galion Realty. In 1964 he went to work for Wyford High School as a business teacher. From 1966 to 1982 he worked for Galion High School as a Distributive Education Coordinator, and graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in education in 1967. He also taught at Lake-Sumter Community College in Leesburg, Florida. He received a Certificate of Appreciation from the State of Ohio, State Department of Education in 1976, and he received a Recognition of Meritorious Service as a member of the 1985-1986 Adjunct Faculty at Lake-Sumter Community College Leesburg, Florida.
He retired in 1982 and moved to Florida. Once settled in Florida, he and his wife Suzanne decided to open an Orange Julius, Dairy Queen and Karmelkorn in the Lake Square Mall in Leesburg, Florida. He retired again in 1992. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Suzanne, who he was married to for 61 years, his brother, Robert Cass and his sister, Patricia Stahl. He is remembered and will be dearly missed by his loving companion, Juli Heermance and her family; Juli’s sister and brother-in-law, and dear friends of Richard, Debbie and John Murphy, and family, of Umatilla, Florida; niece, Ann Cass-Connor (Carl) of Columbus, Ohio; nephews, Edward Cass (Beth) of Crete, Illinois; David Cass (Beth) of Upper Arlington, Ohio; and dear friend, Dawnie Langfeld.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Thursday, January 4 at 2:00 PM at Lakeside Memory Gardens in Eustis.
