Reba D. Mahaney's Obituary
Reba D. Mahaney, age 104, of Tavares, FL passed away on 8/25/2022.
Reba was born on 2/4/1918 in Palmetto, Florida. Her family moved to Tavares in 1927 where her father worked as a section foreman for the railroad. She graduated from Tavares High School in 1935 then attended business school after which she was employed as a switchboard operator for the local phone company.
Reba married her husband John William Mahaney in 1942 and they were together 57 years until his death in 1999.
She is survived by 4 of her 5 children: William Mahaney, Karen Raichle, Susan Cowart (Michael) and Sara Poland, all of Tavares; 4 of her 5 grandchildren: Sean Mahaney, Jason Mahaney, Erica Poland and Corey Cowart; 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Reba was preceded in death by her parents, Emma and Luther Duckett, Sr, her husband, John; six siblings, Robert, Roy, Gertrude, Helen, Luther Jr, Edison; son Gary, granddaughter Jessica and daughter-in-law, Myrna.
Reba was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Tavares where she worked for several years into her nineties in the church’s food pantry. She also began a card ministry personally sending special occasion greetings to church members which she maintained for 2 decades and only recently stopped due to failing eyesight.
Reba was a kind and gentle soul who was loved and cherished by all who knew her and who will forever live in our hearts.
