Raymond A. Gebhardt's Obituary
Raymond A. Gebhardt, age 94, of Sorrento passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019. He was born December 15, 1924 in Freedom Township, MI to Albert Gebhardt and Helen Marie (Scherdt) Gebhardt. He graduated high school as Valedictorian at Sand Lake High School, MI in 1942. He was the Vice President of his class, being active in the band, baseball (first baseman), and track & field. He was also a WWII Vet with the Army Air Corps as a Radio Operator and Radio Mechanic based in Point.Barrow, Alaska. Their living quarters North of the Arctic Circle consisted of a canvas tent with plywood sheeting for flooring. He worked for much of his work life years as a regional manager of the Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Service at Whirlpool, while in MI. After moving to Florida, he worked in the appliance division for Sears and Roebuck. He was predeceased by his eldest son (Gary Raymond Gebhardt) in 2003, wife Virginia (Janie) in 2007, brother Robert in 2007, and brother Albert in 2017. His sister Hilda has passed, but we aren't sure of the date. He is survived by his son Karl Gebhardt (wife Lorrie), daughter Mary St Clair (husband Scot), daughter Lisa Walley (husband Darryl), numerous grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Raymond was a strong faithed Lutheran, quiet man, who loved his family and fellow man, with an amazing sense of humor. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish funeral Home, Tavares. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 11:00AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
