Rachel Mowery's Obituary
Rachel Mowery, age 97, of Tavares, FL passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2011. Rachel was married for thirty-six wonderful years to her husband Bill, who died in 1978. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly, her friends and fellow members of The First United Methodist Church of Tavares, and her friends and caregivers from The Grand Court in Tavares. Rachel was born in Armstrong, Illinois in 1914 and spent her early years helping on the family farm. In 1936 she proudly graduated as a Registered Nurse. She spent the next forty years dedicated to caring for patients. During her life in Tavares, she enjoyed being a member of The First United Methodist Church, the Triangle Boat Club, Mt. Dora Golf Club, and the Eastern Star. In later years she enjoyed playing bridge and was known as a sharp competitor. To those who knew her, Rachel was a woman of dignity, integrity, determination, and perseverance. She leaves a legacy of love and commitment to family to her nieces and nephews. The family received friends at Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, Tavares on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 12:00PM until 2:00PM. A Funeral Service followed at 2:00PM following the visitation. Interment took place at Tavares Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, Tavares, FL or The First United Methodist Church of Tavares. Arrangements were entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, FL 32778.
