I was a volunteer at the after school house in South Miami and the mid-eighties as a high school student and helped with the young children that came from abused homes that Phyllis fearlessly defended... This was a very rough neighborhood. But the locals loved her. Because they knew she helped and loved All the children there. Phyllis was Was one of the most motivated, and hard-working Woman I have ever known. Even compared to my mother who's is a literal machine. She not only helped the children but all of the counselors who were high school kids. She educated us on how sensitive the children were and how important it was for us to be there. I only found out about her passing with a former volunteer who had not seen in thirty years. My messages to her family.... Phyllis effect on her students And those who worked with her lives on in her memory which has not been forgotten.
