Phyllis Fay Hobbs' Obituary
Phyllis Faye Hobbs, 88, Tavares, FL, beloved wife of 70 years to her husband, John Hobbs, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, after a long battle with cancer. Phyllis was born in Marion, Indiana, on February 16, 1937, to Verlin and Bessie (Forsythe) Bragg. On August 27, 1955, she married John Hobbs.
Phyllis graduated from Sweetser High School in 1955. She worked for the Grant County (IN) and Lake County (FL) school systems for more than 30 years. For several years, Phyllis taught piano lessons from her home, where she loved the children, she taught and they loved her in return. She enjoyed arts and crafts of all kinds. She and John loved boating, fishing, and bowling. Jesus was at the heart of everything Phyllis did, and that devotion shone through her commitment to women’s Bible studies and the way she loved her family and friends. She and her husband attended Leesburg Baptist Church for 33 years.
Along with her husband, John, she is also survived by her daughter, Deborah (Terry) Smith of Tavares, FL and her son Bryon (Roxie) Hobbs of Converse, IN.; grandchildren, Heidi Rider and Caleb Hobbs both of Converse, IN; 9 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Rick (Carol) Bragg, 2 sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Verlin and Bessie Bragg; sisters, Wanda Certain and Carmen Hutchens; brother, Gail Bragg; granddaughter, Jennifer Lamkin.
