Peter Ambrose Misseldine's Obituary
Peter Ambrose Misseldine of Leesburg, FL, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014 at the age of 81 years. We are celebrating the life of an incredible man who was loved and adored by so many. His life was rich with incredible experiences, accomplishments and achievements. However these are not the true measure of a successful life. Success is measured in how much you have loved and have been loved, how much you have given and received and how many lives you have impacted and changed forever and in that regard there was no man richer.
Born in London, England, Peter Ambrose was the middle child of three sons. He was always the adventurer of the family, the non-conformist who had an insatiable love for life. Growing up in the tumultuous times of WWII, Peter learned some hard lessons. But this did not hinder his passion for life and his love for people. As a young officer he left Britain to pursue new opportunities in Africa and he took an opening in Rhodesia with the British Police. From the day he arrived in Salisbury in the early 50’s, Africa became his home. It was here that he met his beloved Ingrid, who has been by his side for 60 years. When they first met she shrugged off his advances and was not interested in his affections. But the stubbornness Peter was widely known for eventually wore her down. After following Ingrid and her date to a movie one night, she finally gave in to his charms and the love story of a lifetime began.
Together they travelled the world, built businesses and experienced more of life than most people have the chance to do. They withstood challenges as they navigated the ups and down of the journey but through it all they have learnt to never give up, to always perseverance, to be loving and patient and to love without condition. It is these great gifts that Peter has given to all of those who knew him.
What he and Ingrid were most proud of is their beautiful family. He was very involved in the lives of their three (3) children and seven (7) grandchildren who loved and adored him. It was the love of his family that gave Peter the most joy and contentment in his life.
He was an avid sports lover and although in his earlier years he played a lot of golf and tennis, soccer was the sport he was most passionate about. He loves his soccer team, Arsenal, since he grew up around the corner from their soccer club, and this love was passed on to his children. He spent his last weekend watching Arsenal tie with Liverpool and this gave him great joy.
He had a great love for wildlife and spent many special moments in the Kruger National Park in South Africa. He and Ingrid and the family enjoyed profound peace and tranquility here and dreamed of the days they could return. Peter would check the web cam daily for updates in the game reserve and always told his loved ones that this was the place where he wanted to go to rest. The family is planning a trip this summer to honor his memory.
Peter and Ingrid found new life in Jesus and have spent the last 10 years growing in faith. This has been the strength of their lives and gives the family great comfort to know that Peter is in heaven with our savior.
Peter was extraordinary in so many ways but the ones that stand out in all our minds are his infectious smile and his outlook on life. He never had a bad word to utter about anyone, quick to forgive and always ready with a word or two of encouragement. His great sense of humor brightened a room and you wanted to be around him for all those reasons.
It is not an exaggeration to say that the world has lost one of the good ones. He was a true gentleman, in every way.
A loving and doting husband who will be forever missed. A loyal and caring father who was adored and loved so deeply. A grandfather who has left his mark on this grandchildren and will forever live in their hears.
His passing has been a sad and difficult time for his family, but the peace that passes all understanding has given them strength and comfort. The love of God and the knowledge that they will all meet again one day is what gives us hope and reassurance.
The angels were rejoicing as a great man made his way home…..
Peter is remembered and will be dearly missed by his wife of 60 years, Ingrid; daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Mike Hughes of Howey-in-the-Hills, FL; daughter, Lee-Anne Misseldine of Howey-in-the-Hills; son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Yan Misseldine of Winter Park, FL; and seven grandchildren, Heidi Courtenay, Marc Courtenay, Tyler Hughes, Adam Misseldine, Chloe Misseldine, Jake Misseldine and Caitlin Gilchrist.
Family and friends were invited to gather at the funeral home on Friday, January 2nd from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. A memorial ceremony was held at 2:00 pm.
