Opal Metcalf's Obituary
Opal DeFore Metcalf, born September 16, 1915 in Eastman, Georgia passed away on March 30, 2010 in Forsyth, Georgia. Opal was preceeded in death by her father, Daniel Burch DeFore, her mother, Annie Yearty DeFore, her brother, Odus Edwin DeFore and her beloved husband of forty years, Jacob (Jake) Moran Metcalf. Opal was a military wife but was mainly a housemaker, using gardening and volunteer work to occupy her time while Jake was away. After retirement, Jake and Opal moved to Tavares, Florida and traveled and became active within their church and community. She passed away in Georgia where she lived among her surviving family. They will return her to Tavares, her home, to be buried beside the man she loved more than life itself, Jake. Opal is survived be her great nephews; Jeff (Jody) DeFore, Tim (Anna) DeFore and her great neice Jennifer (Todd) Rivers along with their mother, Mary Morrow. Opal is also survived by 4 great-great nieces and 2 great-great nephews. A visitation was held Friday, April 2, 2010 from 12:30 P.M. till 2:30 P.M. at the Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home in Tavares. Graveside Services were held at 3:00 P.M. immediately following visitation at Tavares Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, FL 32778.
