Omer W. DeLong's Obituary
Mr. Omer W. DeLong, of Tavares, FL, passed away on Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 at the age of 86 years. He was born in Stoutsville, OH and served in the US Army in WWII. He retired from Anchor Hocking Glass in Lancaster, OH after 39 ½ years. After his retirement he traveled quite a bit, settling in California for 6 years, moved to the Florida Everglades for the next 4 years and then back to Ohio where he married his third wife, Regina Spires. Together, they moved to Tavares, FL in 1999. Omer was very active at Mid-Lakes Christian Church in Tavares, was past President of the Imperial Boat Club for 1 year and was past President of the Imperial West Association for 2 years. He had a loving and caring nature toward his family, friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Melinda (Martin) DeLong; 2 wives, Florence Bush DeLong of 25 years and Kate Keplar DeLong of 25 years; son, Michael DeLong; and sisters, Ruth Miranda and Ellen DeLong. He is survived by his third wife, Regina L. DeLong of 11 years; daughter, Connie (Fred) Shaeffer of Amanda, OH; step children, Tim (Heidi) Bush, Nathan (Sheena) Bush, Larry (Rosana) Bush, Sandy (Larry) Alvis, and Dixie (Allan) Frazier, all of Lancaster, OH, Kevin (Diane) Bush of Baltimore, OH and Sandy (Alan) Boatright of Hendersonville, TN; as well as 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 1:00 pm at the Imperial West Clubhouse, 11820 Hickory Lane, Tavares, FL. Services were entrusted to Steverson-Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, Tavares, 352-343-4444.
