“Ng?i di” (go ahead, sit), the last two words she ever spoke before returning to her Creator. Maybe they are not really the last words, but to me, they are!
In our last visit with her, she was unable to focus the whole time, however, there was one moment that she looked at me and uttered two words “Ng?i di”! Then out of focus again. Although these are two simple words but they speaks thousands of beautiful words about her. You have to be there to know what I mean.
As Trinh was massaging and whispering in her ear, I was standing watching Grandma’s face. After 5 or 10 minutes standing in front of her, her CONCERN for me standing instead of sitting down at the chair right next to me brought her in to focus for 3 seconds to tell me to sit… then out of focus again.
Anyone who knows Grandma knows that her shining quality is to CARE for others. This quality is engraved in her soul. In the past, I came to visit her family regularly; she always asked me if I was hungry or want something to eat. In her 70’s, she even came to our house to help Trinh to CARE for our new born infants. That’s our Grandma!
Now that she is at the gate of Heaven, I believe that CARE is the key that she would use to open the gate and enter.
Ngo?i oi! (Oh Grandma!) no more “Bánh xèo” (a delicious food that she made) no more “xô nu?c” (another delicious food that she made)… until I see you again!
