Mildred Lorraine Sherman's Obituary
Mildred Lorraine Stefl Sherman passed away July 16, 2019 in Altamonte Springs Florida following a courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of Robert C. Stefl and Carolyn Patula Stefl, of Westmoreland County PA. She was born March 18, 1943 in Acme, PA. She married Vaughan Sherman on February 27, 1981 and they enjoyed 38 years very happily married.
Lorraine graduated from Hurst High School – and later earned her B.S. Degree from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA. She had a 28 year career in several responsible positions with a major Property and Casualty Insurance Company. She was a Claims Representative – promoted to Supervisory Positions in both Claims Handling and Training for Western PA. She was always a student and earned several professional designations throughout her career.
Lorraine had many interests – including travel, riding on motorcycle trips with her husband, snow skiing in the Laurel Mountains and she absolutely loved ballroom dancing. She especially enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and snorkeling there, the New England states, The Adirondack Mountains including Lake Placid, NY several times. She had a memorable automobile trip across the United States to California – and visited with Family and Friends at several locations along the way. She was a Seasonal Resident in Lake County FL. since 1999 and loved to attend dances at several locations in both PA. and FL. three or more nights a week. Lorraine was a beautiful person inside and out – made friends easily and had lots of friends both in PA and FL. She is a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church in Butler PA – and served as both a deacon and an elder there – she also was a leader of the church youth group and went on a Mission Trip to Nebraska and Colorado with them. In FL she attended Graceway Church in Leesburg.
Lorraine was a very giving person and willingly helped many people throughout the years. Many people have commented how Lorraine “lit up the room” when she arrived. She will be remembered with love by all the people whose lives she touched and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband Vaughan, step-son Doug and Granddaughter Mallory and sisters Tootie Wilkins (Jim), Ruth Prah (Lonnie –deceased), Audrey Gales (Wes), Phyllis Armstrong (Rick – deceased), and Beverly Steele and brothers Bob (Jackie), Warren (Helen), Tom (Lincoln), and Steve. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Joe (Betty) and Frank.
There will be a service Celebrating her life to be announced at a later date at Faith United Church in Butler. She will subsequently be buried at the family plot in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Oak Ridge, Armstrong County, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorraine’s memory to Faith United Presbyterian Church, 1329 N Main Street Ext., Butler PA 16001.
