Mildred Phay's Obituary
Mildred (Edwards) Phay, age 93, of Mt.Dora, passed away Monday, December 17, 2018. She was born in Mt. Dora, Florida, on May 23, 1925, the daughter of James Arthur and Lottie Myrtle (Green) Edwards. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mt. Dora High School in 1943, mastering 5 languages. She intended to join the United Nations as an interpreter but was unable to do so due to World War II. She met Milton Wayne Phay at the Princess Theater, where she worked, not knowing that he had taken her picture from under the candy counter and took it to war. He came home to Mt. Dora and married her. On their honeymoon they rode his Indian motorcycle to California up to Idaho and Washington to meet the collective Phay family. They returned to Mt. Dora where they both worked for the railroad. In 1953 she started at Sally's Dress Shop and worked there into her 70'S until the shop closed. She will be greatly missed by her daughter; Lyndsay DiAnne (Ray) Cecil of Mt. Dora and Dumas, Texas, a grandson; Joshua (Ashley) Gussler of Lady Lake and great granddaughters; Lexie and Maddy. She is also survived by an extended family and many lifelong friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 11:00AM at The First Baptist Church of Mt.
