Michael John Bruso's Obituary
Mr. Michael John Bruso, of Apopka, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the age of 60 years. He was born in Southbridge, Massachusetts to Charles and Gloria Bruso. He moved to Titusville after Southbridge, Mass. abd lived there for 20 years. He then lived in GA and CA during some of his racing days. He then moved back to Central Florida and remained here. He owned and operated Orlando Motor Works car dealership for 24 years. Mike was well known in motorcycle racing and drag racing. He started riding motorcycles at 12 years old. His racing careers included numerous State and National Championships. In 1968 he won Daytona Road Race riding a 125cc Kawasaki, broke 3 speed records in one day. Was a National Champion at age 25. Fulfilled a dream to ride the Salt Flats of Bonneville, set world speed records. Became America's number one dragstrip motorcycle racer. Held the title on World's #1 Drag Racer, set over 19 world records...some still remain today. In 1980 he held the World Champion Title for the fastest terminal velocity ever recorded by a non boosted single engine fueler with a booming 1st round winning speed of 177.17 mph in 7.770 sec, other competitors didn't even come close! title of 1980 Super Eliminator by the National Motorcycle Racing Association, Internal Drag Bike Association 1983 Pro Stock Eliminator, NMRA 1981 Funny Bike Eliminator, achieved 2 world records in 1 day at GA Nationals: Jr Gas 9.953 sec Prostock 10.36 sec. Greatest accomplishment was accepting Christ as his Savior. He attended the Faith Creation Fellowship in Pine Hills. Mike is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jeannetta; daughter, Kimberly, daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Earl Davidson of Tavares, FL; daughter, Megan Bruso of Winter Garden, FL; parents, Charles and Gloria Bruso of Ocklawaha, FL; grandchildren, Hunter Bruso, Kayla Reaber and Daniel Davidson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marsha Waugh and his brother, David Bruso. A memorial ceremony was held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the Faith Creation Fellowship, Kings Way Christian Academy, 4161 N. Powers Drive, Orlando, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to College America, 2733 Dowman Drive, Apopka, FL 32712. The donations will be used for his grandson, Hunter's college fund.
