Maura O'Neill's Obituary
Maura was born to John and Mary O’Neill on October 9, 1922 in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. In 1932, Maura and her three younger sisters, Teresa and Constance (the twins) and Carmel came to America and lived in New York City until moving to Florida in 2011.
She loved her Catholic faith, her family and her Irish heritage. She lived life large but always knew all she had and was was a gift from God. Her keen Irish wit and endless reserve of poems, stories, songs, jokes and quips on any and every topic under the sun delighted those who knew her. She was goodhearted, kind and generous to all. She was creative and artistic and lived life fully. Though initially pursuing a career in acting, she soon learned she had a real gift for teaching. She earned a B.S. in Elementary Education, majoring in Early Childhood Education, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Fordham University in 1960 and an M.S. in Education from Hunter College in 1963. She was a teacher of the deaf in New York City for 25 years. She continued her interest in acting and was very active with amateur acting groups.
She is preceded in death by her parents, nephew Kevin Pfeifer and sisters Teresa and Carmel. She is survived by her sister Constance, nieces and nephews Joseph, Carmel, Susan, Andrew and Peter and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Maura has been a good and faithful servant for the Lord she loved so much. She prayed and lived her faith daily. We are brokenhearted that she is not here on earth with us any longer but are delighted that she is in the hands of God now where there is no pain or suffering, no worry or illness. May you rest in eternal peace, our beloved Maura.
