Matthew T. Kayes' Obituary
Matthew T. Kayes passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the age of 46 years. He was born in Leonardtown, Maryland. From the time he was 16 until he went into the service, he was a Civil War reenactor. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps. He moved to Leesburg in 2004 from Maryland. Matt grew up around the water. He enjoyed scuba diving, snorkeling and boating. He and his wife, Medea loved to go to the beach to enjoy the sun, the water, collect seashells and spend time with each other. He was also a former member of the Moose Lodge and the Am Vets. Matt loved helping people and would go out of his way to assist friends and neighbors. He liked to ride his Harley Davidson in his free time as well.
He was preceded in death by his father, William J. Kayes. Matt is remembered and will be dearly missed by his wife of 6 years, Melissa Medea Kayes; his mother, Marjorie Kays; son, Robert Smith of Maryland, daughter, Trea McQuiston, of Louisiana; step-son, Dalton Long of Leesburg; step-daughters, Kelsey Long and Kaitlyn Long, both of Kentucky; brothers, William (Lorraine) Kayes of Virginia; Kenneth (Tracy) Kayes of Missouri and Christopher Kayes of Leesburg; sister, Helena (Humberto) Fondeur of Maryland; numerous nieces and nephews and his bird, Harley.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, July 13 from 3:00 – 4:00 pm with a memorial ceremony starting at 4:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to assist in covering funeral expenses.
